A big shoutout to\u00a0South West Water,\u00a0Bournemouth Water, and\u00a0Bristol Water\u00a0for highlighting non-native threats like American mink and signal crayfish during Invasive Species Week.<\/span><\/p>

Raising awareness about the risks to our local ecosystems is important. But there\u2019s something they didn\u2019t mention.<\/span><\/p>

While they\u2019re talking about invasive species, they\u2019re staying quiet about the\u00a0hundreds of thousands of untreated sewage discharges\u00a0they release into those same rivers, lakes, and coastal waters every year.<\/span><\/p>

If we\u2019re being honest, raw sewage is about as non-native \u2014 and invasive \u2014 as it gets when it comes to protecting our waterways.<\/span><\/p>

What they're leaving out<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Public data shows that UK water companies are responsible for millions of raw sewage spills. These aren\u2019t isolated accidents \u2014 they\u2019re part of a long-term failure to invest in infrastructure and take accountability.<\/span><\/p>

Sewage pollution:<\/span><\/p>

\u00b7<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Destroys habitats and harms marine life<\/span><\/p>

And yet, during awareness campaigns like this, that side of the story rarely gets told.<\/span><\/p>

Protecting nature means more than PR<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Invasive species are a threat \u2014 no doubt about it. But so is pollution that\u2019s being knowingly released by the very organisations claiming to protect the environment.<\/span><\/p>

So here\u2019s a thought: if you\u2019re going to raise awareness, raise your standards too.<\/span><\/p>

Campaigns are nice. But clean water requires more than headlines. It requires action, transparency, and real commitment to environmental stewardship.<\/span><\/p>
